The African American Heritage Celebration program started in 1983 under the leadership of former Íøºì±¬ÁÏ Associate Superintendent William Charles Akins. This is the 43nd Annual African American Heritage Celebration, and it is an opportunity for Íøºì±¬ÁÏ to celebrate the academic achievements of our students, the dedication and leadership of staff members, and the commitment of our community partners. We honor over two hundred students, Íøºì±¬ÁÏ staff members, and various community leaders.
Each year, the African American Heritage Committee selects a high school to showcase its student talent and to host the celebration. For 2026, the committee has chosen as the host campus. The theme for this year’s event is “A Century of Celebration: 1926–2026 Faces of Íøºì±¬ÁÏ.â€
The 43rd Annual African American Heritage Celebration will be held in person on Friday, February 27, 2026, at 7 p.m. at the Íøºì±¬ÁÏ Performing Arts Center (1500 Barbara Jordan Blvd.).
