2026 African American Heritage Celebration

Date
Friday, February 27, 2026 - 7:00 pm

The African American Heritage Celebration program started in 1983 under the leadership of former Íøºì±¬ÁÏ Associate Superintendent William Charles Akins. This is the 43nd Annual African American Heritage Celebration, and it is an opportunity for Íøºì±¬ÁÏ to celebrate the academic achievements of our students, the dedication and leadership of staff members, and the commitment of our community partners. We honor over two hundred students, Íøºì±¬ÁÏ staff members, and various community leaders.

Each year, the African American Heritage Committee selects a high school to showcase its student talent and to host the celebration. For 2026, the committee has chosen  as the host campus. The theme for this year’s event is â€œA Century of Celebration: 1926–2026 Faces of Íøºì±¬ÁÏ.â€

The 43rd Annual African American Heritage Celebration will be held in person on Friday, February 27, 2026, at 7 p.m. at the Íøºì±¬ÁÏ Performing Arts Center (1500 Barbara Jordan Blvd.).
