Look for details from your comment card suggestions within the recommended plan changes and appendices. Additional information will be presented through an upcoming set of Frequently-Asked-Questions (FAQs) directly related to comment card suggestions. And, we will use information from comment cards to inform continuing communication beyond the final vote as we plan for transition.
Comment cards have been the latest feedback opportunity during the consolidation process. Please visit Consolidation Surveys to view additional information and results. We have collected a total of 24,888 response items from our surveys and commend card options to date. We have held more than 20 community meetings since the data rubric was released in August, including 13 meetings since the draft plan was released Oct. 3. Thank you to everyone who has provided input at each step of the process. You are an important voice as we shape our 챬’s future.
In this second round of updates, 챬 refined the proposed boundary changes using community input and our guiding principles. Feedback was organized into a Changes Tracker, which guided further review with demographers, district leadership, and trustees.
These updates are reflected across key sources, including the Feeder Pattern Chart, School Locator Map, Story Map, and the Boundary Update Packet. These sources will continue to be updated as changes are finalized.
As part of this process, the district also began reviewing program and space planning at campuses to ensure that building utilization and enrollment remain balanced. This is especially important due to our commitment to allowing “Continuation Transfers” (formerly known as “Grandfathering”) and wanting to provide space for transfer students impacted by a school closure to transfer to the new assigned school with their peers. In some instances, our program and space planning review resulted in changes to boundaries and student reassignments.
How we Reviewed and Refined the Boundaries
Throughout this process, our goal has been to ensure every update is thoughtful, data-informed, and aligned with our guiding principles and community values. We held a series of collaborative sessions with MGT, our demographer team, to analyze community feedback and determine whether additional adjustments to the proposed zones were needed.
All refined updates from this second review phase will be presented at the Board Information Session on November 6.
Community Input
Community input has played a critical role in this phase of the boundary review. Many families and stakeholders shared helpful and actionable feedback, such as insights specific to their neighborhoods or campuses, program considerations, safety and access concerns, and suggestions for keeping neighborhoods logically clustered. The district is using all of this input to guide thoughtful updates that reflect community priorities wherever possible.
Our Guiding Principles for This Review Phase
Our guiding principles help shape how we evaluate community input and proposed updates. While these criteria often work together, they can sometimes conflict. They are not ranked but instead provide a framework to build consensus among district leadership and the Board. The criteria also help identify potential unintended consequences of proposed changes.
Throughout this review, we’ve been tracking these considerations with our demographer team to guide discussions around:
- Boundary adjustments
- Academic programs
- Enrollment and transfers
- Transportation
Key considerations include:
- Minimizing impacts on students and families
- Balancing enrollment across schools
- Aligning feeder patterns
- Ensuring long-term stability
- Considering TAP (Turnaround Plan) factors
